Berlin Geeknic, May 19th 2009
Technically, it might not be a geeknic… but it will be a picnic, and it will be for geeks, so we’re promoting it anyway!
Earlier today our informants told us of a geek picnic at a park called Görlitzer Park, at 19.00 (7 pm). After getting in touch with the organizers, we thought it appropriate to promote it here. Geeknic++ Northeast United States, July 10-12th.
Yes, you read right. A three day long geeknic! What gives? Well, heres the scoop: We’re going camping!
Meet us in the wilderness for a whole weekend of fun in the great outdoors, or just drop in for a picnic. We’ve grabbed a group camping site in the US northeast, and members from a number of northeast LUGs are planning to attend already! We have selected a final site at Jenny Jump park in NJ. There will be a $10 cost to adults to cover the site, firewood, and smore supplies. That’s $10 for the whole weekend. For those of you who are not up to being away from the internet that long, stop on by between 11am and 3pm on Saturday for a picnic lunch with burgers, hot dogs, and cake!
If you are joining us for camping, be sure to bring a tent and whatever you would like to sleep on, as well as non-perishable food. If you do not have a tent, please make a note of this in your email. We will have a few spare tents and we WILL find space for you, even if you don’t have one, so don’t be afraid to sign up!

Directions:
Take Route 80 to exit 12 to Hope. Turn onto Route 519 north at blinking light. At third right, turn onto Shiloh Road. Approximately 1 mile, turn right onto State Park Road.
We’ll have 2 nights of camping as well as a picnic on Saturday for those who are unsure how to sleep without wifi, and of course evening campfires where we can recall countless tales of Grue-snatching and kernel compiling. The park includes fishing, 6 miles of hiking trails, picnic tables and grills, and a playground for kids. Saturday night, between 8 and 10 PM we’ll be heading over to the observatory for an astronomy presentation is followed by an observing session. There will be plenty of activities for everyone! As we continue our summer of geeknics, we have two more to announce. June 6th, 2009 we will be holding a geeknic in Edinburgh, and July 4th, 2009, there will be one in Cardiff. Pack up and get ready! No firm details on locations or other information exist yet but they will be available shortly. See you there!
