Dublin geeknic #2 August 2nd, 2009

Submitted by

The last Geeknic was such a great success we thought we’d have another one during Summer. I use the summer word lightly as well you never know what kind of weather you can expect.

This time instead of the city center, we’re going to go to Farmleigh park, which is located in Phoenix park and was the home of the Guinness Family. Once a month they have a farmers market and we’ll be there on the August bank holiday when they have the farmers market on.

August Bank Holiday Weekend

WHEN: Sunday 2nd August @ 1pm

WHERE : Farmleigh Park

WHY: Somewhere different, it is also having a farmers market that day,

HOW TO GET THERE: Loads of ways to get there

We had a great turn out at the last Geeknic and it was a change from the pub, so looking forward to seeing people at this event!

Placerville, CA Geeknic, July 12th 2009

We have yet another geeknic coming up now, this one in Placerville California, about 45 minutes west of Sacramento.  The event will take place at Lotus Park.

Take the Ponderosa Road exit (at Shingle Springs) off Highway 50, go North (left if you are heading towards Tahoe, right if you are heading towards Sacramento). Turn right onto North Shingle Road. Follow the double-yellow line. The road will change names a couple times, first to Green Valley Road, then to Lotus Road. Just keep on it. After several miles, you’ll go up a hill, past a volunteer fire station on the left. At the top of the hill, there will be a school, Sutter’s Mill School, on your left. Keep going straight, this just tells you that you’re very good at staying on the same road.

You will go down a hill now. At the bottom, there’s some twisting and at one point, there’s a surprise stop sign. Try not to blow through the stop sign. Lotus Park is about a mile, maybe less, past the surprise stop sign, on the left. There are signs. And it’s got a large, green, open area.

If you find yourself at a T-intersection with no ability to just keep going straight, it means you’ve overshot Lotus Park by around a half a mile or so. Just get turned around in a parking lot (there’s plenty to choose from if you turn left at the T-intersection). Obviously, it will now be on your right.

See you there!

Dublin – May 10th 2009 – Report

The geeks crawled out of the woodworks and the server rooms to attend the Dublin geeknic, getting the first of many European geeknics off to great start. With 29 in attendance, those involved felt the event turned out well, with good weather and great times for all.  There was actual cake for everyone, and all in all it was a good day away from the computers for a change.  We look forward to the next geeknic with great anticipation!
